I wonder how many sailors are in the Nimitz-class Carrier Strike Group that just pulled into Port Au Prince harbor?

So do I, I would bet it can't be more than 15,000 total personnel in all 3 ships that have been sent, and probably closer to 10,000.

Any other comment here is garbage, seriously. There are innocent people dying, kids, etc. Have some fucking pity assholes. What if the earthquake hit somewhere else, where maybe you or loved one's are? I bet you would want some help then. Who gives a fuck if they are the poorest country, there are still innocent people, women, and children dying over there.

Hey, those who want to send their own money, go right ahead. I'm not against that, send all you've got. Give until it hurts if that floats your boat. Just dont try to bully others into paying for your sad little feelings. Shit happens, it happens all over and it happens every day. What is the difference between that and all the other deaths by earthquake, tsunami, starvation, aids, etc etc etc etc that goes on every single day? Because the media gave you sad little pictures, that pushes your buttons?

Our government is matching personal donations. I just gave $50 (x2 after the match). It's not much, but you do what you can. I can't even fathom the hell that those people are experiencing and my piddly little donation will mean what, I don't eat out once? I don't buy that pile of shit I don't need from Walmart? I'll deal. The Canadian and American governments both piss away billions on absolute bullshit, they can fucking kick in some relief for this crisis.

Amen, someone with a heart. Thank you for that.

Here where I work, they have set up to help, and employees so far have donated $11,710 to Red Cross that will be matched by our company (I work for a big company). Customers have also donated $1.26 million through text messaging donations. I dont have alot, but plan on donating what I can to help.

No reason anyone should have to go through that shit, especially women and little kids/babies. I guess alot dont give a shit unless it happens to them, or their loved one's.

The looters have come out in force. They run the country now. Aristide is hoping to slip back in and have his thugs take over. Any aid sent over there will be stolen by criminals. I gave for new orleans but i'll pass on donating to the looters.

Bensen, you are the one who thinks aids is not caused by the hiv virus. You are the one with the nutty ideas with that and your gw denying and nuclear sprinkler systems.

Under stressful circumstances, the dormant LUTN and KILN genes become active in black folks.

I've heard that if no cops are around that tends to activate those genes even more so. Clearly its not their fault. Obviously the only solution is to send them more handouts. Perhaps a helicopter could dump the money directly on the looters saving them the trouble of taking it away from the weak and sick? Obama has already pledged over $100m and thats just for starters. I'm not sure if that is the total or the amount per person he is sending.

you are confusing the citizens with the aid 'providers' and governments, as to who steals the money. I bet 5% of it gets to the actual people somehow.

Didn't you know this is how Africa became a third world poverty stricken country? With all the "generous aid" western and European countries were giving them, really fucked them over pretty bad.

Slow zombies = ok, have the mandate of Allah

Voodoo for fast zombies? Complete bullshit, obviously God is gonna smite some motherfuckers. How many fucking times do I have to say this people, fast zombies are against the zombie rules...

I suspect people give a shit about Haiti for a few reasons:
1. White guilt over Katrina, however misplaced
2. Proximity to the US and its former territories (ie, Dominican Republic)

Oh yeah, speaking of exporting democracy.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Wilson thus ordered the U.S. occupation of the Dominican Republic. U.S. Marines landed on May 16, 1916, and had control of the country two months later. The military government established by the U.S., led by Rear Admiral Harry Shepard Knapp, was widely repudiated by Dominicans. Some Cabinet posts had to be filled by U.S. naval officers, as Dominicans refused to serve in the administration. Censorship and limits on public speech were imposed. The guerrilla war against the U.S. forces was met with a vigorous, "often brutal" response.
...
(in 1965) U.S. president Lyndon Johnson, concerned over the possible takeover of the revolt by communists who might create a "second Cuba", sent the Marines days later, in Operation Powerpack.
...
Balaguer remained in power as president for 12 years. His tenure was a period of repression of human rights and civil liberties, ostensibly to keep pro-Castro or pro-communist parties out of power. His rule was further criticized for a growing disparity between rich and poor. It was, however, praised for an ambitious infrastructure program, which included large housing projects, sports complexes, theaters, museums, aqueducts, roads, highways, and the massive Columbus Lighthouse, completed in a subsequent tenure in 1992.</div>

Sports complexes? FUCK YEAH! Theaters? FUCK YEAH! Aqueducts? FUCK YEAH! Massive lighthouses? FUCK YEAH!

What does the Dominican Republic think of their Haitian neighbors?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Haiti is much poorer than the Dominican Republic. In 2003, 80% of all Haitians were poor (54% in abject poverty) and 47.1% were illiterate. The country of nine million people has a fast-growing population, but over two-thirds of the labor force lack formal jobs. Haiti's per capita GDP (PPP) was $1,300 in 2008, or less than one-sixth of the Dominican figure.[1][87] As a result, hundreds of thousands of Haitians have migrated to the Dominican Republic, with some estimates of 800,000 Haitians in the country,[12] while others put the Haitian–born population as high as one million.[88] They usually work at low-paying and unskilled jobs in building construction, household cleaning, and in sugar plantations.[89]

Children of illegal Haitian immigrants are often stateless and denied services, as their parents are denied Dominican nationality because they are deemed to be transient residents, due to their illegal or undocumented status, and the children, though often eligible for Haitian nationality,[90] are denied it by Haiti because of a lack of proper documents or witnesses.[91][92][93][94]

A large number of Haitian women, often arriving with several health problems, cross the border to Dominican soil during their last weeks of pregnancy to obtain much-needed medical attention for childbirth, since Dominican public hospitals do not refuse medical services based on nationality or legal status. Statistics from a hospital in Santo Domingo report that over 22% of childbirths are by Haitian mothers.[95]

In 2005 Dominican President Leonel Fernández criticized collective expulsions of Haitians as having taken place "in an abusive and inhuman way".[96] After a UN delegation issued a preliminary report stating that it found a profound problem of racism and discrimination against people of Haitian origins, Dominican Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso issued a formal statement denouncing it and asserting that "Our border with Haiti has its problems, this is our reality and it must be understood. It is important not to confuse national sovereignty with indifference, and not to confuse security with xenophobia".</div>

Yes, I hear they do fantastic housekeeping.

Oh, and I laugh at the entire "humanitarian/compassion" discussion here.

1. Where were you motherfuckers and your money during genocide X or crisis Y in Africa? How did you help the refugees from the Rwandan genocide? Oh wait, that's different because the news footage doesn't look like Katrina, right?

2. You'll note for all the high-horse preachiness and hybrid vehicles from liberals, the people who actually go down there, save lives, and get the job done do so on a nuclear powered aircraft carrier and vote Republican. Where are the liberal arts graduates in Haiti, you ask? Getting in the way, making a mess, and being generally useless media whores. They profit off the suffering of others but do nothing to intervene, help, or change it. Where are the great socialist nations so idolized during this crisis? Not in Haiti, that's where. Put that in your bong and smoke on it for a while.
