What do you think about acupuncture? Has anyone tried it? Is it effective?

I have never tried acupuncture personally but my brother has. He has had a back injury for years now and he says the acupuncture relieves the pain. The studies on acupuncture have shown it does relieve pain. A better option than taking drugs, in my opinion.

My mother in law tried acupuncture for pain due to a shoulder injury and she said it did help her with the pain and stiffness. You have to have this alternative therapy several times though before you really start feeling substantial results. I have to agree with musclehead though that it's a better alternative to the long term use of pain pills. Although many doctors downplay the addiction side effect of prolonged pain killer use the number of treatment centers that address addictions of this type are rapidly increasing which should make us all wary.

I had it done several years ago when I had severe carpel tunnel. It saved me from surgery. So, I'm a big fan of acupuncture. I had to pay for the treatment myself since the Worker's Comp doctor recommended surgery and acupuncture is considered alternative medicine.

It bears mentioning that, if you're not used to it, it may freak you out a little at first. I was majorly nervous and I have a huge fear of needles, but my back and knee pain eventually got so bad that I was willing to try anything. No worries. You'll be fine if you try it.

I am a huge pain of it! I have to admit it kept me from having to go back and get a spinal fusion. It really makes my back pain tolerable and allows me to move around more and without the pain I can finally do my proper workouts to build up the muscles to stabilize my spine.
